Transport

Leaving the Mainland

Ferries to French Island depart from Stony Point (Melway map 159 F5). Stony Point is ten minutes from Hastings by car, and there is usually free parking available along the Stony Point foreshore. There is also a train service between Frankston and Stony Point in Myki zone 2: for train timetables and other details click here. FOFI is also happy to help members and visitors with transport on our project days. Please allow at least 10 minutes to walk to the end of the jetty. There are public toilets at the far end of the Stony Point Caravan Park and on the ferry.

Ferries also run between Cowes and French Island (Tankerton).

Tickets

Western Port Ferries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Searoad Ferries, runs a purpose-built catamaran ferry between Stony Point, Tankerton and Cowes.

Seniors Card holders travel for free on weekends. FOFI has a number of tickets to help pay for members under 60, generously provided by Parks Victoria. For more information see:

On the Island

Transport on the island for FOFI is in a Parks Victoria 4WD, and the ranger on the day usually drives the vehicle and joins in our activities. If more people want to come on the project day than can be accommodated in the ranger's vehicle, it is sometimes possible to access a second vehicle if sufficient advance notice is given. Otherwise bookings are taken on a first-come-first-served basis.
